American independence required more than a declaration. It depended on people willing to put their skills and resources behind an uncertain cause. Haym Salomon, a Jewish immigrant from Poland, was one of them. His work as a broker and financier helped sustain the American Revolution and the leaders building a new republic.

As the United States marks 250 years of independence, join the Jewish-American Hall of Fame and the Combat Antisemitism Movement for the Hall’s annual virtual induction ceremony honoring Salomon and dedicating a new commemorative plaque. The program will explore his contribution to the founding era, his place in Philadelphia’s Jewish community, and the ways his legacy has been preserved in archives, museums, and public memorials.

Hosted by Arthur Maserjian, Deputy Director of the Jewish-American Hall of Fame, the ceremony will bring together perspectives from the Hall, the American Jewish Historical Society, the Virginia Holocaust Museum, and Philadelphia’s Congregation Mikveh Israel. Together, we will consider what Salomon’s story tells us about Jewish participation in American life from the nation’s beginnings, and why sharing that history matters today.

Held just before Veterans Day, the ceremony will also pay tribute to the generations of Jewish Americans who have served in the United States Armed Forces.
